Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure of Brazil and the Americas

The InterAmerican Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC) is honored to announce and celebrate the appointment of its President, Ms. Andrea Melo, as the General Coordinator of Accreditation (Cgcre) for the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) of Brazil.

The appointment, officially confirmed on October 9 by INMETRO President, Mr. Márcio André Oliveira Brito, coincided with a swearing-in ceremony for new staff members, symbolizing institutional renewal and commitment to strengthening the Quality Infrastructure in the country. This recognition highlights the strategic role of accreditation as a pillar of trust, competitiveness, and sustainable development.

The event was also honored by the presence of Mr. Marcos Aurélio Lima, Director of the Instituto da Qualidade do Futuro (IQF) and IAAC member, underlining the importance of cooperation between accreditation, the productive sector, and society in advancing regional progress.

Leadership with a Proven Track Record and Regional Vision

This new and strategic role is no accident, but the culmination of a distinguished and profound career within the Brazilian organization. Prior to taking the helm of Cgcre, Ms. Melo served exceptionally as the Head of Division for the Development of Accreditation Programs at INMETRO. This preceding experience has furnished her with comprehensive knowledge of conformity assessment systems, cementing her profile as a highly suitable and prepared leader to guide Brazil’s national accreditation toward the highest standards of excellence and international recognition.

The General Coordination of Accreditation at INMETRO (Cgcre) plays a fundamental role in the Brazilian quality system, ensuring the technical credibility of laboratories, inspection, and certification bodies. Under Andrea Melo’s direction, Cgcre is expected to deepen its contribution to foreign trade, facilitating access to international markets through the Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) and promoting mutual trust among the continent’s economies.

The IAAC team celebrates that one of its leaders is now at the helm of one of the most influential accreditation entities in the Americas and looks forward to working in an even more synergistic way with Cgcre under her leadership. This change heralds a new era of collaboration among the region’s quality bodies, driving a future where quality and safety are the standard for inter-American progress.
