Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation, A.C.
The Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC) works to facilitate access to proficiency testing programs in Latin America and the Caribbean through its connection to the international database EPTIS (www.eptis.bam.de). This database, created in Europe in 2000, gathers information about more than 800 programs available worldwide.
Thanks to a project led by the IAAC Laboratory Subcommittee and funded by the German institute PTB, proficiency testing providers from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America can register their programs in EPTIS. This allows laboratories in the region to more easily learn about and participate in these tests, which are key to demonstrating the quality and competence of their services.
The regional coordination of the system is managed by the Directorate of Scientific and Industrial Metrology (Dimci) of INMETRO (Brazil), and includes a regional coordinator, a secretariat, and national representatives in each country who are responsible for supporting and registering local providers.
Any proficiency testing provider from the region can participate, as long as their program is operational or has been conducted at least once, with plans to repeat it within the next two years. Registration is done by completing a form on the EPTIS website, with support available in each country through the designated representatives.
